Situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park one of 28 secondary schools in the Highland Council area. Current school roll of around 401 pupils. This roll is expected to rise to approximately 500 over the next few years.
There has been a secondary school in Kingussie since the time of the Columban missionaries but the current building dates from 1970 (with a brand new extension added in 2013).
Pupils come from a very wide geographical area and their parents from all walks of life. Aims to create a happy, learning school with as good examination results as possible, educating pupils in the widest sense whatever their ability. Gaelic motto “Gu Dichiollach” means “With Diligence”.
Kingussie High School has six associated primary schools – Aviemore, Alvie (at Kincraig), Dalwhinnie, Gergask (at Laggan), Kingussie and Newtonmore.
Curriculum is in constant development and takes into account of current national guidelines to implement Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence. Also have a wide programme of extra-curricular activities which cover many sports and leisure activities.
Have a long established link with the Muloza Community Day Secondary School in southern Malawi which includes a teacher exchange programme and opportunities for pupils in both schools to visit one another.
