This photograph of the Craig Mhor Hotel, in 1904, at first glance, shows an astonishing similarity with the Hotel today, with the same verandah, the same bay windows – very much the same look.
….. however…
This 1998 picture reveals that in 1904, the Hotel was much shorter – the adjoining building was in fact a separate house – the Hotel ended at what is now the middle chimney, the part to the right in the present day photograph being added some time later – though it is believed that the extensions were certainly carried out before the Great War – probably before 1910.
The Hotel closed in 2001, and has been converted into luxury self-catering apartments, with a touch of their former Victorian elegance.
