Circular Walk round the Strone

This walk can be undertaken in either direction, and is on tarmac roads all the way. For a clockwise route set off from the village square towards Kingussie.

On reaching the Balavil Sport Hotel turn left up the short road to Church Terrace and turn right. On reaching the start of Clune Terrace turn left and proceed uphill, taking the first road on your right at the bend in Clune Terrace. Continue uphill. Over the cattle grid veer right and carry on to the summit of the brae.

This walk has a fine view of the village and the strath of the Spey, towards the summits of Cairngorm (AnCarn Gorm — the blue mountain) and Braeriach (Am Braigh Riabhach — the greyish-brown speckled slope) to the east. To the north and west the view is of the moor of Strone with the summits of A’ Chailleach (A’ Chailleach — the old woman) and Am Bodach (Am Bodach — the old man) as prominent features. The land here is crofting land worked by the Strone and Craggan Crofting communities.

The road now swings downhill to the right until the main road is reached at the cottage called Eastholm. Turn right here and return to the village centre.

To make the trip anticlockwise go from the village square to Eastholm and proceed uphill to the left.
