Newtonmore is in the county of Inverness, administered by The Highland Council. The electoral ward is Badenoch West, which encompasses Newtonmore, part of Kingussie to the west of the River Gynack, Laggan and Dalwhinnie. There are four local councillors in the Badenoch and Strathspey District. The elected councillors for the ward are Stuart Black, Jacqueline Douglas, David Fallows and Gregor Rimell.

The Scottish Parliamentary constituency for the area is Inverness East, Nairn and Lochaber, where the first past the post elected member is Fergus Ewing MSP (Scottish National Party).
